Yeah, I couldn't make out the spins on the anal fin.  We do have Warmouth here, but not many Rock Bass.  And that fish looks surprisingly like the Warmouth at my home lakes.

Warmouth will also have some darker brown lines radiating from their eyes, which I don't see here.  I will defer, and say it's a Rock Bass.

McSruff, remember, most flies are tied to catch anglers, not fish.  Flies that catch fish are rarely as good-looking to human eyes.

When in doubt, count the rigid spines in the anal fin.....A Warmouth will have three rigid spines, while a Rockbass will have six.

Easy to do, works brilliantly.

It did indeed McScruff! Also, I fished the Pink Blackhead, and let me tell you, the action with the palmered marabou is insane. Unfortunately, I didn't get any fish on that one yet.

Allen, Warmouths and Rockbass look somewhat similar in body shape, but they have different markings. Rock bass look like this with the vertical, dark, mottled lines, and the warmouths kinda vary in colors, but don't have the mottled barring like this.

Wow, you mean the "Squirrely Charlie" actually caught something?

I made the danged thing up!

I didn't know what else to do for the swap - I just wanted something simple to tie that wouldn't push my neophyte tying skills too much. It would have sucked to promise some elaborate job, and be unable to deliver. So, I whipped up a basic little "Charlie-type" fly that actually came out kinda crappy, IMHO!!

But Im glad it caught something :)

How 'bout that...
