Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I was fishing for crappie and gills near a dock from my float tube using 4 lb test on an UL rod. I fought this sucker for 30 minutes solid.

Oh man did this big male channel cat tow me around. I would have swore I was throwin' a roostertail behind my tube! I'm not kidding about the 30 minute fight. I was fishing that jig under a small slip bobber when it disappeared under a dock. I set the hook thinking I had a nice gill or crappie but when it pulled back hard I knew it must be a cat. I checked my watch, noted the time. I kept having to kick away from the fish as he kept trying to swim under my tube. I would kick away from him in a circle keeping some tension on him and letting the drag go to work. Then he would turn and pull me. Rinse...repeat. After a while I was hoping the line would just break. I finally folded him into my dip net and looked at my watch. 30 minutes. I laughed a little and then snapped a couple of pics and let him swim.
