Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

2 bluegill two pounds each caught at the same time on flyrods

I was fly fishing in Richmond Mill Lake with Clyde Douglass and we both hooked up -- a double -- and this was the result. Two 2 pound bluegill!

Put a ruler in there. They really don't look like 2 pound fish. Now your fish with the quarter on it's side looks like a 2 pounder. Still very nice 'Gills though!

Good point about tackle too light...I tried 2 lb test in this tangled waterway and got broke off real quick on big gills amid the wood and weeds.

That's impressive! Yes, it's true that the largemouth will absolutely kick your butt if your tackle is too light. I've been there! :-)

Actually, its true, it WOULD be a blast to catch these on a 2wt. But on Richmond Mill Lake we don't go smaller than a 6 wt. because if any of the big bass get on, you just are donating the fly to the lake! These were caught on a 7wt. and still took over 5 minutes to land.
