When I was using them heavily I usually tore them down every winter for cleaning re greasing. This one sounds like a coffee grinder and vibrates. I am embarrased to say that I have not tore it down. I just replaced it with one of the others and went about my merry way. I have since mounted an old Diawa gold mini reel on the rod. I have not fished spinning for 5 or 6 years. I don't think the Diawa has ever seen the water. I have been 100% fly fishing for several years. The Diawa is the newest reel and it is probably 35 years old. I have gotten my moneys worth out of the Mitchells. I still have a supply of bail springs for the Mitchells. It was a common part to fail and tricky to replace. These have been great reels. Never liked the drags though. I used to crank down the drag and take of the anti-reverse and if I caught anything that needed line I just back cranked. Worked great. I got that trick out of Carlie Brewer's book on fishing his sliders. Charlie has since passed but his son still has a store in Lawenceburg TN.

Ray that one is a 310 japan made how ever the parts are still avalaible for the france made 308 and 408 they are not at all hard to repair I am thinking you might be surprised what a good tear down and cleaning would do for your reels I rarely see one that is truly broke just stiff and dirty great reels

I am an old geezer and I still have 3 or 4 of those little Mitchells. 308's and 408's. The gears is gone in one of them though. I think mine are older than yours here. The thingy that tightens the crank handle is silver metal on mine and the Mitchell name is much smaller on mine also. I don't use spinning much anymore so they just sit in a box in the man cave. They were the best you could buy at one time..
