guess I need to check my coin collection before I cash them in- last time I checked- it weighed a little over 50 pounds!   in fact- over the years I worked- I saved all of my change and when I retired cashed in the biggest part of it.   it bought my boat - depth finder- new rods and reels- fly tying stuff- everything on my page and then  some. still have quite a bit left over

I have a  few wheat stalk pennies. Any time I get one, I always keep it. They still turn up in circulation once in a while.

It helps if there was ever anything that took place on the farm, besides farming.  Was there ever a Chataqua (think small county fair) on the property?  Brush-arbor church meetings?  Ice Cream Socials?

The clothes line was also said to be a good spot to pick up a few old coins - if you can guess where it was.

Ive tried these places and never really got much. Ive always found a few pennies, a nickle or dime here and there. But little else.

Jim, take a detector, and scan the ground immediately around the house.  Think 10 - 20' away from any corner, on a diagonal away from the corner.  Used to be considered good luck to bury a few coins (even pennies) at such locations.  Where was the privy?  Scan a swatch, in a straight line, from the back door to the privy hole.  Also check under any "obvious" spot that would make a cache of coins.  Is there an old fence?  Check the fence posts for something.

Most farmers didn't have much, Jim. It is not the norm to find really high value items like gold and silver (even coins) at old farmsteads.
