That looks like an awfully tall fish in the photo. Any idea how long it was?

I realize these are not 2 pound fish, but the shear size with the numbers in there is outstanding. They put bluegills from a very popular lake in this particular pond back in the 50's. Back when the gene pool was still built tall and thick.

Yep, I understand that. The private 30 acre pond I fish has just ridiculous numbers of pound gills though. I can go out there and literally catch 40 15oz+ fish in a day. Its small, completely flooded with big gills, and other gills of all sizes. Crappies over 15" too including a 17" that was caught last summer. Heck, half of those fish in my pics are from out of there, including the one in my avatar.

Thats one of the key points to developing "pig gills" - low numbers.

Plenty of predators to keep them thinned out and adequate food for the survivors make it possible for those remaining fish to grow big, Big, BIG!

I know the lake Ross gets those fish out of. I'll be there in May through the month of June. Never fished it before but I know there are not many gills in it, they grow into gigantic pigs though.

What a beast! they grow em big up there in the Land of North Star.

Another member here, Russ Ardoff, is always pulling suckers like that out of the waters of Minnesota, too.

Great fish, Travis!

Not 2lbs I know that. We didn't have a scale with that day. Just a pic and the release are my only memories.
