Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Michael Caserman caught this 4 pounds 13 ounces, Bluegill on Lake Havasu on June 6. The 16-inches fish was caught around 11 a.m. on McCoy fishing line using 12-pound test with bait. Caserman suggests Havasu anglers fish early in the morning or at night around dusk, around shallow embankments.

Hi Marisa! Don't worry, it appears Jeff has found the info! He's put a discussion on the main page, and we're all waiting for pictures... but they'll happen soon, I'm sure! I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to say THANKS for telling us about this! Do well in school... don't spend too much time daydreaming about fishing :-)

I'm checking prices on airfare... I can sell my truck, and then hitch hike with my poles across my shoulder! LOL!

Very seriously Marissa... get us info, please? This lake seems to me to be heaven on earth. I've hit Wikipedia, but it takes fishermen to tell the truth about waters... and you are there to find out for all of us... no pressure, but if you can back up a 5 lb 5 oz red ear with ONLY the email address of the guy who caught it, we'll be on it like a fat bream on a cricket! Thank you for all that you've shared, and we can all tell, you're one of us. Big smile! And no embarrassment if you fell for a whopper, just keep fishing, and make the kidders look foolish. (:

Wow Marisa... A 5 lbs. 5 oz.  Redear?  Have you seen any pics yet of this fish?  Everyone here wants to see it!  A Redear that big ought to be in  a local newspaper or Western Outdoor News.  Who did you say told you this?  What is the name of the shop?

If it were a bluegill it would already likely be being considered for a tie with the world record, which is four pounds twelve ounces (a new record has to best the previous one by two ounces).  The yellow-tinged fins pretty much guarantee it's part redear - I've caught tens of thousands of bluegill, and have never caught one that had yellow-tinged fins.  Not to mention the body shape is much more that of a shellcracker.

The average casual angler mistakes redear for bluegill - go on Youtube and do a search for "big bluegill" and you'll get plenty of shellcracker photos.
