They have 2 rows of meat down their backbone , in Louisiana they make them into Gar Fish balls and fry them in hot grease.         LOFR

That might be a Spotted Gar.  I haven't seen a lot of juvenile Long-nosed Gar, so I could be mistaken.

Here in OK, we have four out of five species of Gar.  Long-nose, Short-nosed, Spotted, and Alligator.

Yes, they do fight good.  I've tangled with lots of adult-sized Long-nosed Gar.  Nice fight to them.

Yeah Carl your'e right about that. Some of these guys(the bigger ones)will jump up out the water like mini sailfish!:)

I hear you Mike.....we are all standing by for "Battle Stations" Bluegill.....hope to see a few tomorrow but we have experienced below average temperatures all week......I know where the Crappie are until my bluegill buddies come out to play!

We have 3 varieties of gar in my general area,i'll catch them from time to time...

Yes i think this is a longnose spotted gar, if i'm not mistakened?I usually grab the smaller ones like that,if they're bigger i would definetly need some gloves Jeffrey.No sunnies biting yesterday,also caught a lil bass...

We catch these guys in coastal North Carolina.....we don't have their large cousins the Alligator Gar in our region.....range is more isolated to the deep South.....
