They burrow when the water drys up, they will (hole-up) till the water returns. They hatch when the water is high in the spring and wash into the creeks and rivers.

those things a fun to catch-- real good bass bait to!

Pond owners are not usually fond of the burrowing type....anything that digs into the dam is a no-no.....

Yeah, the leave these tell-tale mud "towers".  I've actually heard that the burrowing species of Crawfish are more rare than the stream-bed variety.

I usually just find a shallow stream with a rocky bottom, and use a small net, like the ones you use to dip minnows from a bucket.  Start flipping over rocks, and catch them.

My son kept one a long time in an aquarium. Along with various water creatures he caught in the creek. Fish, mussels ,tadpoles and snails.

Yeah I'm gonna look it up. I may need to get a trap.

Can you keep them in an aquarium?

Towers?

They are but hard to catch. Find standing water or a slow moving ditch. Look for tell tale towers. Use a garden rake to pull them up or a small dip net.

Okay, I would not have expected them there
