Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

- same one from yesterday. I think this is one of the rudest things you can do to somebody fishing. Get it a lot - come up behind you and GPS spots or follow us around the lake. Pontoons, kayaks, canoes, and boats - don't matter. I had to stop and move in and wasn't able to fish Pig Point. Don't want those fish gone for ever....

what ever you do LedHead protect that spot of yours. dont catch fish when boats are close and watching

I do all that, too, Ken
I watched a couple guys yesterday, in fact, fishing right over a spot Id passed through twenty times - nothing but flat, featureless bottom. They weren't catching anything, AT THAT TIME, although I suspect I know why they picked that spot. ;-)
I saw a pontoon loaded with people a month ago, catching fish. So I went there yesterday, alone, to do a "scan about." Didn't see anything below that made me think anything special, but they had a secret spot that day. I didn't bother them on their special day, but kept going.

You're right - people may be looking at me. In fact, Im sure they are. This is the South on a big, popular bass/striper lake. In this world of powerful boats and fast fishing, a big dude drifting in a Big Blue Canoe does rate a second glance. The day I figure out how to catch those off shore fish I see below, well... That may be my Vulture Day, the time people stop.
For now, I catch a few off the shore, do a lot of adventuring and get some exercise.

Not a bad trade.

i know what your saying LedHead it is like a battlefield out there especially in a popular BOW. i remember my dad taking us out on Lake St Clair. when your on walleye the fisherman start getting tight and my dad had this heavy duty baitcaster with a large bass sinker, treble and large feather attached he used to cast across lines that got too close.some of the apologies he used to use were " im really sorry you guys but you must of got too close"

david... i dont know about that ... when im out on a public BOW i always look at the boats out there fishing and ask myself why are they fishing there and for what and i always make a note mentally or on a waypoint on my GPS. i look at kayakers and see they are probably local and head out to their few selected spots. i normally head out on a trip now with a game plan i set usually the night before but if things look sour an i cant find fish i look at everything.

judging by his electric trolling motor and the way he’s fishing he’s probably running a Terrova Minn Kota in conjunction with follow the contour mode on a Humminbird FF. these units can pick out your boat in relationship to fish schools around you.

I remember when I first got my high powered bass boat in the mid eighties my father in law brother in law and I set off to fish Houghton Lake in upper mid Michigan… a fish factory of a lake.  We loaded up with bait at the local shop at the launch. I started asking questions about the fishing and I was getting the cookie cutter responses from the behind the counter guy.  I showed him a paper map and asked for a direction and really got nothing from him. An old gent overhearing my conversation said look for the old guys fishing in pontoon boats you’ll find fish. We hit this massive body of water looking for just that. Found a couple pontoon boats sitting on top of which ended up being a large weedy hump and we picked apart that weed line and ended up with a large amt of walleyes and crappie. But during that fishing session I at the same time respected the anglers fishing distance plus some.

Fishing a few weeks ago I found a small tight bend in a weedline that started producing jumbo hens. A fully loaded boat (with toys) pulled up tight and all around me and was actually waiting for me to pull off my new spot! I actually downplayed my fishing until they finally moved on.

holy crap ... im that old guy now! lol

Interesting.
I don't get vultures, but I'm in a canoe on a big, big body of water.
I'm also not famous like you and I don't catch all the much.
Mostly, people tear by me shaking their heads.

Sometimes you got to grin and bare it Jim.

That's what I get for posing fish carl. They were watching hard the day before and couldn't stand it the next day..  With your fishing success Ken - pretty sure you are being watched too. The problem is - when they try to get next to you.

With these side scan finders out there it doesn't take much they could be 250 ft away. I believe I get scanned a lot.

Agreed. I get that from some boats when I fish Marburg in PA from the shore for crappies. Had 'em close enough that a short cast would put it in their boat or kayak.
