This fish was captured on Jan 16 2010 thru the ice on Upper St. Croix Lake in Douglas County WI. I thought the markings were a bit bizarre

Wow! That mark runs right along the lateral line. Wonder what that means? Something to do with cold water? Looks like you took a marking pen and just drew a line on it.
