Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Here's a much better photo of the GIANT Redear right after she was caught. It looks like he may have been bait fishing, by the looks of those rod holders in the boat. She
measured 17" long and had a girth of 19.5"!

Ok, Who is going to be the first one to tie a fly  that looks  like a snail  ?

I'd like to throw this out there to all our "armchair ichthyologists", well, at least guys more knowlegible than me in the science of fish.  If the Redears grow so large on a diet of crustaceans and abundant mollusks, what about the Bluegill?  Do they not dine on the same food?  I understand that Redears are also known as "shellcrackers" because of a type of stone or gizzard in their throats allowing them to crush small snails and clams and then digest them.  So basically I'm asking.. can Bluegills also do this?  It sure would be nice to see a 5 or 6 pound Bluegill come out of Lake Havasu also!

I keep going back and admiring this giant.........I'd love to hear Hector's testimony on this catch.......this is so encouraging when so often the story is not of a sunfish but a different species.........I like the fact that the interval between record fish was so short unlike many of the state records established many moons ago....that's another reason to respect the catch........I don't head out fishing every time thinking I'm going to catch a trophy gill today but it's fun knowing you have a chance no matter where you wet a line.......In my opinion, there's not a member on here that wouldn't be excited to fish Havasu just knowing what that next cast might hold........Why would you type in "Bigbluegill.com" unless you were at least interested in catching one.......Can't wait to see the next trophy!

Well Carl if that fish would have gotten to the boat only  to get off  I would have known it is the new World Record and weighed exactly 5lb and 8  ounces, how would I have known that you ask ?  Answer :   He had scales! LOFR

WOW,  what a real "GILLZILLA" , I bet the Bass used to scramble to get out of the way of this {horse}.

My favorite thing about this catch is just the knowledge that they actually have a top end nearly six pounds!! Makes my head spin.

tony-- your to much just like me buddy!!  but I will add- if I did have a fishing partner at the time- I would have to tell them-- if you have never seen a grown man cry- you might want to turn your head!!  this is NOT going to be pretty!

Oh, and a quick heads up in case this scenario ever unfolds........the rendering of garments will not be suitable for young children, older children, those with a squeamish side, any member of the opposite sex, any member of the same sex, those with a heart or other medical condition, and Homo Sapiens in general.

Which means it's probably a good thing that I fish alone most of the time.

getting a little crazy here.lets exclude all manmade bodies of water for trophy consideration.throw in the great lakes as the salmon were introduced as well as all brown trout in the states.any hybrid species.what is going on here.public water is public water.this fish is awesome and a freak.so are the florida largemouths stocked in california that eat the stocked rainbows..i could go on and on.there is no where in n america with few exceptions that have not been affected by humans.some good some bad.
