Believe it or not, cut shad was what caught it. I caught on to this by accident while fishing for catfish. We kept getting bites but during the hookset, nothing. Finally, I looked at the shad and it looked like it was attacked by pirhana. I put on a size six baitholder instead of size one and used a little sliver of shad and viola! Bluegill. The catfish will still hit those tiny pieces of shad as well so it can be fun on light tackle. They like worms too but the shad outfishes them three to one. I think since the shad is a natural forage item in the lake is why it does so good.

Wow that is a great fish, and like everyone else has commented that has got to be the most round gill i've ever seen.  What bait was used?

A 9" Bluegill that weighs about a pound.  That is awesome.  Roundest gill I have seen.  Congrats.
