Nice pumpkinseed! I lived in Maine for 15 years and we caught these exclusively. Very few gills up there, if any. Folks in Maine concentrate on trout and salmon. In the ponds and lakes where sunfish flourished they were almost always seeds and they got to reach enormous sizes in some waters because they were largely ignored. Now that I'm in upstate New York I catch both seeds and gills in the same ponds I fish and I guess I got spoiled because I seldom catch many gills that are bigger than the seeds I caught in Maine. In some of the crystal clear lakes in Maine a male seed's colors during spawning season were so defined they looked like something an artist would paint. In an article I wrote for Fly Anglers OnLine I used a picture of a bull seed that I wish now I had had mounted. It was well over 10 inches.
Anyhow Eric, great looking fish.

Great looking fish, wish I could find some seeds around here.
