All the 'gills we caught on the 12th came from a 60-acre lake that I just started managing a year ago. The lake is full of gizzard shad and the bluegill were badly stunted when I started working with it, averaging around 4". So they're looking a lot better than they did a year ago; I just hope they still have a few years of lifespan left.
I read a study online a while back that found that different fish food brands can have different effects on how fish grow i.e. long versus tall, etc., so maybe it's something to do with the food. I think their brilliant coloration can probably be attributed to the food.
