Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught Seventeen nice chunky White Perch on the upper Pasquotank. Water temperature @ 47 degrees and located some fish at 15 to 20 feet in a total water depth of 27 feet....

Seventeen! That's how it's done! Excellent winter fishing!

Thanks Jim and David....sure glad they were hitting hard....I was tight lining deep but the wind and wave action had the boat moving so I set the rods up so they would slap the side of the boat on a strike and allow me to set the hook....I still missed quite a few but I got a fix to carry me out to next weekend....inching towards daylight savings time 3/11/12 so that makes me happy!

Excellent winter catch! And these are outstanding tablefare...one of my top three!

We've got a couple of cold days a comin', but by mid week it is suppose to level off in the upper 40's. I had 44 at Marburg water temp on Friday and, sheeesh, March is just around the corner!

February and you're on the fish...I'm impressed!

I liked catching these at Lake Murray, Jeff. They were always willing biters when you go into a school, and where one was found - others were sure to follow.

I hope in the future to catch more of them. That is a nice one you have there in the pic.

Not a problem John...another panfish that I enjoy catching and pretty good table fare....I wasn't actually looking for White Perch until I caught a couple in a row and next thing I knew I was stringing a nice mess together.....All these fish hit small live shiners today...I really didn't try anything else because of adverse weather conditions.......

Thanks for the WP report .I appreciate that and am anxious to get out again on my small lake and get some of these critters! I am always amazed btw how these guys will hit a fast retrieve even in somewhat cold water .Perhaps not quite as cold as 47 deg. however!
