It's an assortment of 8 spools. So on a per spool basis, it's a good deal.
For something I'll use only infrequently, it's expensive.
Which is not, of course, the fly tyers logic. So I'll need to work in that.

$13????  Where the heck are you shopping?!?!?!?!  I buy mine for $3 at Micheal's........

Every time I pick up that metallic embroidery floss and see the $13 price, it burns my fingers and I throw it back down.
I need to stop that.

Nice!

Definitely use a glass bead!  I'm actually using metallic purple embroidery yarn, not floss.

I tried one of your Purple Martins on a whim.

Purple glass bead head

Purple floss

Iridescent thorax dubbing

Wood duck breast hackle feather

No metal bead, it should sink slowly, hook bend down and rearward. This has been suggested as the best way for a popper dropper for two reasons

1. Bluegill tend to follow a popper well before committing.

2. the dropper literally falls into their face.

The gill comes up from behind normally, investigating the commotion of the popper... and what does he find? The dropper sinking slowly, right  back to him!

That's the theory at least. Its worth a try, and since I dont have many metal beads, well... it s kind of a natural.

Not a problem, Carl.

Scruffmeister, come to think of it, no, I haven't.  I've tied some of my mosquito soft hackles without any weight, and they work great.  I did some mosquitos soft hackle without a bead, and they work great.  I wonder if UTC makes a purple wire?  Add weight while keeping the body nice and slim.

You would probably have to change your shorts after seeing some of the pictures I did today, various soft hackles with wire bodies, multiple colors, WOVEN wire bodies, etc.....

well; Allen;; to tell the truth;; I could not remember the name you gave it;; I started to call it a purple hull;; or a purple peacock.  any way;; it came out as a purple martin;; LOL!!  extremely good bait !!  thanks Allen!!

Okay thanks for the pic, Fuzzy.
A bead head soft hackle. Have you tried it without the weighted head?

Keith, the "Purple Martin" is what Carl has taken to calling the Purple and Starling soft hackles I've been tying.  I kind of like the name myself; I'll probably start using it too.

That's what they look like.
