Yep......we see perch regularly up to 14 inch class especially now as they gear up to spawn..........I'm at the elementary level of any ice fishing but if I could I would definitely give it a try.......I have to fish year round or I'm not happy..............I've seen a few of those shanties featured on TV and that's very neat to me..........being a hard core angler I like any approach to catch a fish.....
12" Yellow Perch? Man, those are some bigguns! And tasty!
You may think it's cold now :) Come up here to MI in January, run up to Houghton Lake, when the ice is 18" thick. People have permanent shanties out on the ice, w/ propane heat, generators, DishTV, microwaves, food, etc. Some of those shanties actually have some beds (think folding racks in the Navy) and folks will camp out on the ice at night.
Yep.......I clean several good messes of perch during our winter months.......we contact more perch this time of the year when they move shallow in preparation to spawn late winter...............an added bonus with no limits in North Carolina as they are not classified a gamefish and taken in large numbers by commercial fisherman...............
WOW THAT'S ABOUT AS GOOD AS EATING GETS BUDDY......
Thanks John.......I might hook Carl up.......he's been good to me!
Thanks Vince.......yep they spawn during the coldest part of the year on the Albemarle from late January until mid February.......so we will continue to cross paths moving into the winter season..........welcome back again!
love the late season Perch .Enjoy the taste Jeffrey .Carl is jealous I bet .Send him a Perch cake for Christmas!
Good ones there, Jeffrey! I've caught some of my best perch when it was to cold to put my hands in the minnow bucket to re bait.
Thanks guys......down near 20 for the wind chill which is cold for me Carl.........I hate the wind element
