Do you love big bluegill?
This was the best gill from my uncle's pond. These are the biggest gills we've caught in a while from this pond. It used to have really nice gills years back but changed to a bass pond somehow with numerous largemouth in the 20'' range and few bluegill over 8''. It now seems to favor gills again as most of them were around 8'', and we caught many small largemouth in the 10-11" range.

Pretty interesting how things happen. My dad remembers there being many 10's and some 11's back 20-25 years ago. Twelve years ago or so, there was a fish kill that took a heavy toll, after that the bass came back strong. Then 2 or 3 years ago my uncle found several big bass carcasses laying on shore from a suspected poacher, so now there's hardly any big bass, but the gills are growing.
One of my local ponds is going through the exact same phase over the past 3-4 years. We are now seeing numerous 10 inch gills and have caught several at 11 to 11.25! Bass are getting smaller...I'm not complaining!
This male had different colors on him than the others caught that day.
…near perfect specimen.. just a small split in the tail
