Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Shotting a Floating Rapala is catching a few fish and getting several follow ups and swipes in 50 degree Water. Lift and drop to bottom . Perch are coming up off bottom for it . Shot at 6-8" from lure and it works .Put the shot closer and it's ineffective .

"Cool idea John, Arkie makes a similar shaped bait called a Crappie Crank that has really small treble hooks perfect for Bluegill."

I might add they are about $2.50 each when purchased from Arkie direct. That ain't the best price you'll find on a micro crank (< 1.5"), but it's fair for good quality. And you can order as many different ones as you want - something you probably can't do at WalMart.

John - do it all.
I'm relying on you for my inspiration.
Knee gonna have me down for a while. Go catch em, and tell my name at em when you do.

NoJim , but would like to .However the weeds in my suburban lake are mostly killed off by club members that cater to swimmers more than fisherman .Actually they don't cater to fisherman at all . As I understand it the shrimp habitat is healthy weeds .Am I wrong in that assessment?

Absolutely!!,  the head down ass up profile arouses curiosity . I look for ways to make my lure look vulnerable .An analogy is the Hawk at the bird feeder watching the birds ,when it decides to strike it may be a bird feeding and having its guard awareness down . Fishing a baited spoon/ or jig always appeared to me to represent a fish or other creature feeding and vulnerable to attack .

Rapala makes their F series all the way down to size 01 - pretty small.
A floating (rising) bait is a good idea, since it "pops up" head down, like a feeding fish.
The lead tape though, though, or the suspending lure is also good.

Pretty neat. John, get good at this and well see you in the pages of In Fisherman!

i believe smithwicke makes a smaller rattlin rogue.they suspend and can also add lead tape to get them to suspend deeper.
