All things fishing are interesting to me…..I follow the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission very closely…..they have stocked Redbreast into four local rivers that I fish….so far I’ve caught good numbers of Redbreast on two of the four and I have provided size and location to them…..I’m hoping to find them in the other two rivers, one of which is the one full of Pumpkinseeds…..so far the state still has a 12 fish limit on Redbreast, all other sunfish the limit is 30 per person per day….I release most of the Redbreast I catch hoping we will benefit in the coming years….
Interesting, are there also Red Breasted Sunfish in that creek? Another small (at least the ones I catch in a small "river") but aggressive Sunfish, nevertheless. The pseeds in that particular water are the most numerous fish I catch there. Only a few Pseeds and Bluegills that I've seen but the up to 12 " Smallmouths are in there also.
Likewise here John, all sunfish species combined are outnumbered by Coppernose on the Albemarle……I do have one creek that you can fill your 30 fish limit with just pumpkinseed…..it’s a marshy setting in which I personally find that coppernose don’t like…..I usually go in that spot with a 1/64th ounce jig tied on to maximize catch ratio..,.
The Bluegills are far more numerous in this water but these Pseeds are tough contenders!
They can be surprisingly aggressive on larger baits…..catches me off guard every so often….I guess they have to do what they can to eat in a crowd…
Glad you like Jeff. I am pretty amazed it hit a #3 Dressed Spinner!
Pretty Seed!
