Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

BiLayer beetle.
Black 2mm foam bottom, 1mm foam on top for visibility.
Legs are variegated silicone skirt, slightly longer in back.

I made a change by adding a ball of dubbing just behind the center point of the hook shank. Then, the foam is center tied so the dubbing ball forces the rear "abdomen" to sit higher than the front.
This improves viz, and makes the hook hang lower for surer hookups.

I'm no entomologist, but I think it makes them look more "buggy."

Scruffy, on my Gurgle-Pops, I always tie them with the rear legs longer than the front.  If you think about it, hoppers and crickets have longer rear legs.  Not sure about other terrestrials.

I've become fascinated (hooked) with top water, now that the weather is warm.
As long as bugs are on or near the water, I'm digging for a dry, popper, or foamie.

Thanks Vince.
I added the legs, so the rear appendages are longer than the front ones.
It got immediate attention, where I had been fighting a tough bite prior to tying it on.
Did this make a difference, this leg arrangement?
Hard to say, but it's not unusual with terrestrial bugs to see this sort of asymmetrical set up.
It's worth pursuing, and it adds a little something else to tinker with at the bench.

Good looking tie, and it looks like the bass like it too!

Never tried that, Allen. I just get Aberdeens and bend em how I want em.
Tooty taught me that. I'll open the gape, or close it, as wanted. Maybe put a hump back in em ad you describe. It's hard for me not to, when I can get a hundred for less than half of dedicated "fly" hooks.
That said, ill give it a shot like you suggest.

Nice!

Have you ever tried using a 3xl curved-shank hook, like a Tiemco 200R?  You would think, with the hook hanging down a little more, that hookups would increase?  It works for my size 12 Muddlers.
