Great question. Male white crappie get very dark and are often mistaken for black crappie.

yeah, i love it when male black crappies look like this. Never caught a spawning white crappie so i', not sure

Beautiful fish Chris!  I love those dark males in their spawning colors.  You see where they get their name... "Black Crappie".  I wonder if male White Crappies get dark also when they spawn?
