Here is something else I found:

Baby bass begin feeding on zooplankton then switch to insects and other baby fish by the time they reach 2 inches. The small fingerlings grow quickly throughout the summer reaching 1/2 to 3/4 pound by fall. By spring the bass are mature and can begin spawning. Most largemouth bass will grow one pound a year after their first year. Maximum size and rate of growth is a function of food availability, competition and age. Genetics are a small part of the equation and are linked geographically to climate.

But like everything else I think it all depends.

All I know is that if I catch any bass smaller than 6-8 inchese this year I know for sure I had a spawn.  Heck that may even go up to 10inches as I did not stock too many Bass and they have plenty to eat.

I also caught one about 2 months ago that was already 11 inches.

The reseach for the lmb is all over the place. But I did come across eserch that supports what u just said Sharon.  What I just read said that they become sexually mature at 1 yr old "OR" over ten inches. But the next thing I read said that the females are mature at 4 to 5 months. Thats why I say the info is all over the place.

However, the bass have not been biting along the grassy banks these past weeks, so maybe they are spawning

This is what I found:

BREEDING

Largemouth bass typically first spawn when they

are one year old and approximately 10 inches

long. Spawning takes place in the late spring at

water temperatures of 18° – 23° C in depths of 1 –

4 ft, anywhere from 1 – 8 ft off shore.

Zach you say I may get a bass spawn this year.  Im hoping, but they are aonly a year old at this time. Everything I read says they are sexually mature at or about 2 yrs old. But they also say at or about 9 to 10 inches, so I wonder if the growth and size will matter more or yrs old, or if they go hand in hand. If they go hand in hand it will be another year. What is your understanding of this?

The minutes that I am refering to was about 3 minutes. I think it was late spring or early summer last year. I did leave the trap over night quite often. I always had less when I did it that way. Once the food is gone, with enuf time, they start figuring how to get out. The food I baited the traps with was the same commercial feed that I feed the fish.

what did you use for bait in your trap, and when you say minutes how long would you leave it before fish were in the trap?

Ever leave the trap over night?

What did you do with the fish once you caught them?

You may even get a spawn from the bass this year.

I stocked 25 at 2 inches long. I had bullhead cats and green sunfish that I did not stock that I was worried about. The Hatchery told m to stock 50 more to get them under control. They did that  quickly. I used to throw the minnow traps out and within minutes pull up 40 50 greenies and bullheads, Now I get almost none. I have sinced taken out abou12 of the bass. I now have some out there over a pound Everything is growing well and fat, So atleast for now, my balance is pretty good

How many of these did you stock and what size were they when put in the pond?
