Well, we put 500 lbs of lime in the pond today. Can get more Fri. Doing an experiment with pond water and lime to see how fast it dissolves. So far, the clay is still suspended in the water.

Well, I've tried that, but because we have a running stream going in and out of the pond, it doesn't stay there. My water stays at 6.8 PH. I think that's strange as it's "natural" rain water.

add lime, that should take the suspended particles  to the bottom.

Sounds easy, and there would be more fish left. I am trying hard to catch some bluegill big enough to eat this spring. Our pond is so muddy from digging the sides back all winter, I don't think they can see the bait.

Sharon, first you scale them, a spoon works as good as anything, second , remove the head and tail, next split open from where head was to anus, then use your finger or thumb to remove innards, finally I make a slit on both sides next to the dorsal fin and pinch dorsal fin between knife and thumb and rip it out of the back. That's all you have to do beside rinse and was out insides and your ready to cook any way you want.

So, if you cut them up whole, I'm assuming you remove the head, tail and innards? How do you get the innards out? Do you remove the skin? This sounds like something I could do.

I filet mine with an electric knife and cut out the ribs, next either cornmeal or a tempura batter, but sometimes I like them cut up whole , old skool style , where you have to pick the meat off the bone , and the only thing left is a Fred Flintstone comb.

I cut mine up per video instructions from Patrick Bullworm. Got about a quarter sized piece from each side. I need to practice more. Don't have a favorite recipe yet.
