I like tying Squirrel Tail Hair on a black Jig with yellow eyes .

right the opposite here, they seem to prefer the waxie over the nightcrawler for some reason.  i also have a bottle of the pink ones but havent used them yet.  i tried the maggots on that trip but went back to the waxie in short order.

my son is 29 and that was the first fishing trip we had been on since he was a teenager.  i used to bass fish a lot back then and he didnt like it.  so now i mainly panfish and he wanted to go.  needless to say he put me to shame on catch rates, lol.  he had a blast and wants to buy his own boat now, lol.  he caught several that missed the TARP by 1/4” and a shellcracker by 1/4”.  maybe next time, i really wanted him to get those certificates.

...tracy... i really am hooked on these GULP Waxies... i switch off between pink and chartreuse... in my local lakes chartreuse seems to work better on the clear lakes bright skies.

when Earl is fishing with me... (I consider him an expert jig fisherman) he'll prefer the nite crawler bit... most of the time we are even up... once in awhile though one will outweigh the other in popularity.

i believe they actually hold on to the gulp longer and actually try to swallow it.

kudos to you on your selective catch and release methodolgy

lol i use the exact same.  only one difference, i also use the smallest beetle spin grub body and i tip it with the chartreuse gulp waxie.  i usually use the black jig head but my son outfished me 10-1 ,2 weeks ago , with an orange jig head.  so i changed to orange and started catching fish.  i imagine it look like a tiny crawfish in the water to them.  caught about 40 big gills and one shell cracker.  all gills over 9” were released.  for whatever reason they wanted the orange color to, so it pays to change it up.
