Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

201540719- we all planned to get together at the lake for beach activities , dock fishing with the kids and some boat fishing with my jon ( I havnt had out since mid May). While the kids were on the beach I unloaded the boat and tied to the dock. I could never resist making a few casts from the dock in any situation. I baited up some slip float rods and drop shot rigs. I immediately started catching 5-8 inch B’Gills off the dock.
A father and son team came in off the lake and proceeded to tell me about a slow bite, a few crappies and little gills. The son was very interested in the setup I was using while catching one fish after another. The young lad asked if he could try. After he caught a few fish the dad took off to the bait store for some gulp maggots leaving the young lad fishing off the end of the dock. He would not let go of the spinning rod… lol.
After we did a little dock fishing and swimming on the beach I took a few out in the boat and immediately marked schools of panfish. Loaded everyone up with dropshot rigs and pink gulp and proceeded to catch one fish after another by dropping over the sides of the boat! They had a blast!! My daughter Kayla refused to fish as a child up till today. No casting just dropping the bait over the side and reeling them in… she had a great time. Caught many that avg’d 7-8” and vowed to come back later in the week for a little b’gill harvest for lunch on the shore… family and fishing … a classic combo!
