Do you love big bluegill?
20150428-I finished a little work on the boat this afternoon and decided to give it a spin on a small panfish lake hoping the lake temps would be elevated more than Wixom Lake. Even though it was a late start I thought I would be able to accomplish a few objectives. I motored about the lake first scanning the deep basin and then the break lines. Very little activity. Two very warm days brought the water temps back up to 58 degs all the fish seemed to be shallow… less than 2-0 ft in depth. Casting shallow with slip bobbers scattered the target fish. Even overcastting and bring the presentation to them spooked them. I brought minimum tackle with me (I would have had a blast with a fly rod but left it at home) so searching through the jig box I brought out a jig I tied almost a year and a half ago but never used… my Spring Cricket… tied around a 1/64 oz jig and cast with my UL combo with Nanofil line I was able to cast the jig into the schools and procure a few bites. First fish on my creation felt great!
So maybe later on in the week ill bring the 3wt fly rod and do a little experimenting.
