2015.02.28 – checking my logs it s been a long 18 days since I wet a line last… a long period of multi polar vortex s slamming our region. Today started out bad physically for me with all night back and neck pain… usually ill sit on the sidelines for a while. After pounding some anti-inflammatory s I decided to go take a "walk and talk" to the ice fisherman on Wixom Lake. Talked to quite a few and nothing exciting going on… a few small perch and crappies in possession and that was it. Clear blue high pressure skies was the culprit most said. At some point in my walk I decided to jettison off to my favorite pannie lake drill one or two holes and spend a few minutes. Why not? fishing the bad days only makes you a better fisherman. Something my Dad once told me.
So a half hour later I was drilling thru some brutal ice on my pet lake… 24” inches … 12 inches more than the last time I drilled…. But I drilled on my favorite summer thru winter way point thus far.. the action was immediate and non stop. All small fish but a great spend of time. Sure I stayed there hoping the larger fish would move in… and they probably would have if I lasted the cold. A nice showing from a junior bass topped off my afternoon. Looking at the upcoming forecast for march it will only get better than this!
