Do you love big bluegill?
Best fish of the day… a tough bite … really tried to target crappie and gill and ended up wit a bunch of these from about 6.5 “ down to 5”… numerous in quantity though which is nice when your getting tuned with some new equipment and im pretty much an amateur when it comes to ice fishing. Caught these fish on divided lure selections a Siska smelt stick tipped with pink Gulp of course. This jig combo was a big hit with me snapping off the bottom on deep breaks. Works great in the winter Ha! The other quantity of perch were caught on a new tungsten jig on 2lb mono ice line. Those that no me know how I feel about mono… very mushy in sensitivity and stretch… however I did catch this fish at 22 ft. I recommend mono at depths of less than 12 ft. I will continue to use this presentation especially at colder temps. The line peeled off the reel nicely with that xtra dense tungsten jig a tugging. All in all I had a good time. I don’t remember getting this excited catching such small fish.
