Eric ... that's what I'm afraid of... I'm a very addictive person by nature and give 200% of what i get into (try anyways)so far my fly fishing has been very simple in hardware... a popper and foam spiders have been doing the trick for me so that's basically why Ive been holding off on the tying. now add that feeling of catching fish on your own creation adds to that game and addiction.
Keith ... the fish were very shallow in less than 2ft of water and were spooked by floats hitting the surface and even overcasting and dragging into the school... the jig is so lite at1/64 oz the only rig that was able to cast it was a UL rig with the 6# Nanofil... i was site fishing casting a little past the school an swimming it past them. i'm headed to the tackle shop some time today to buy some 4# Nanofil and should do better casting a greater distance. i could actually see the jig shift and disappear. conditions were ideal and it was glass calm... i hardly ever see that up here.
How are you fishing that jig Slip?
Slip Sinker....nothing to be afraid of....just need to tie up and keep "the wants", "man I need that", and "Man I need some of this so I can...." under lock and key 20' down a deep dark hole and you'll do good...I don't think any of us have been able to do that yet, or keep it completely under control either... Personally, every time I go into any store, of any kind, I'm constantly seeing thing that can be used for jigs, or fly tying, or used for fishing in some way. And when I say any store, I mean any store....pet store, hardware store wally world, plumbing, lumber yards.......
thanks.. Tinknocker1
my actual thought was to imitate the rubber leg patter on my foam floating spider on a jig but replace the foam with neutral buoyancy chenille.
SS if you don't mind me asking what size jig head is that ?
thanks Eric ... im actually afraid to step into that hole after what ive seen on this site....lol
thanks Tootie ... just got to build up some speed with finishing off the wraps... im actually going to bring the vise and tools up from the dark corner of the basement and use it ...lol
thanks again guys... i just don't know how this little jig slipped my mind all these months... found a perfect pattern for fishing the spooky prespawn fish in the shallows on this particular lake. because i didn't have my fly-rod with me this jig does a very slow glide and fall and it fit the situation perfectly... pretty excited to catch a few fish with it.
nice pattern looks almost like the famous cap spider thanks for sharing
