Lake elsinore asks people to no release these fish back in the lake. Most anglers kick them onto the beach and leave them there to die. The fishing beaches are loaded with carp skeletons. It's not the right thing to do, I usually give them away of break off my line once I see the yellow. In this particular lake they have ruined the once good fishery.

Actually guys, the common carp are not near as damaging to most major gamefish species as many anglers assume. I have been fishing in the Potomac and Susquehanna rivers for more than 40 years and, despite the numbers and size of the carp, these waters remain almost world-class fisheries for largemouths, smallmouths, muskies, walleyes, stripers and crappies.

Carp can cause problems in some smaller inland bodies of water where gamefish and habitat diversity is limited. In Europe and some areas of the US, carp are gaining popularity and are extremely difficult to catch on a fly rod. The small river near my home, the Monocacy, has many 20 to 40 pounders in it, and the once outstanding smallmouth fishing in this river has suffered most from overharvest by the locals, not the carp.

I love carp fishing, and once landed a 25 pounder on 6 lb test. What a fight!
