Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

HBG are predominantly male, however females certainly do exist... here is a pic of 8 pretty ladies caught in one of my own ponds. All gravid, all weighed between 12 and 18 ozs. Since I do not desire any offspring from these fish, they were not released... That decision was not easily reached...

Hey Tony...isn't the survival rate of second generation hybrid sunfish rather low, thus allowing for catch and release fishing for the big girls with low recruitment numbers?

I see spawning beds in one of our ponds that is dominated by bluegill/green sunfish hybs, but I never seem to see any smaller offspring in the mix over the past 7 to 8 years.

No, these fish are a cross between a Bluegill, and a Green Sunfish.

Are these a Redear/Bluegill cross? Those are some hosses for sure.
