June... never really tried slow trolling specifically for the crappies... down south i heard is very popular. i guess im relying so much on the electronics nowadays... marking the schools in an area with waypoints and casting to them. i guess trolling thru a school would be a neat method to try.

sometimes just hooking up and heading out with the kayak to fish shallow i'd leave the sonar at home. i knew i was in trouble when i couldn't tag the fish shallow and had to go out deeper. nowadays its fishing blind.

i really like the twister tails thru the years i also like the little paddle tail swim jigs also.

...tagged a few nice ones by dropping the jig down into the school and vertically jigging... twitching the bait right in front of their noses.

KEN, DO YOU EVER TRY SLOW TROLLING WITH SMALL JIG HEADS AND TWISTER TAIL BODIES? WE USED TO CATCH THE CRAPPIE POST SPAWN ALONG THE CHANNEL EDGES WITH SOME TIMBER USING THIS METHOD. WE WOULD RUN TWO LINES OFF THE BACK CORNER AND TWO LONGER RODS OFF THE SIDES. VERY FEW TANGLES BUT ALLOWING TO COVER DIFFERENT DEPTHS AND DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WE USED THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND VARIED THE SPEEDS. WE ALSO USED THE SAME TECHNIQUE AT SOME OF THE LARGER MOUTHS OF DEEPER CUTS..IT WAS A VERY EFFECTIVE WAY TO FISH WHEN THE KIDS WERE YOUNG BECAUSE THE FISHED HOOKED THEMSELVES.
