Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

no braggers today... but had non stop action... the handful of pike between Earl and I provided alot of action on the Ul Panfish gear.

Thanks Jim!...

it was nice to connect with the weedy shallow pattern... and to see several species in sync

out of 5 point total between us one was a keeper at about 25 inches none under 21. no this was just a CPR outing

It does look like a white crappie and I questioned it many times with the locals as far as they know they have not stocked white crappie in this lake. stocking accident?

Lots of action makes for so much fun..good job!

Were any of those pike legal eaters, or too small?

Also, that looks like a white crappie in the one photo...?

I eat, sleep and breathe fishing, Slip. I understand and totally agree with where you're coming from! If we had safe ice up here I'm probably ready to try ice fishing.
sorry Gary i accidentally erased your comment when i was editing another on my slow and obnoxious tablet... it was still on the screen on my computer...lol.
eat, sleep and breathe fishing is a great phrase... fits me perfectly too. after being forced to medically retire i was glad to fill the gaps in my life with fishing.

thanks John!... We started out the early afternoon doing a little reconnaissance on another lake and discovered after a short hike through the woods access was barbwired off by the locals. obviously the state sold off some property to private individuals. which was once owned by state land is now off limits.

so we hit another local lake with DNR access and discovered very slick ice conditions making it very difficult to travel with no cleats. we were ready to call it an afternoon when Earl suggested hitting one of our home lakes and searching better ice conditions and for green shallow weed beds. the ice conditions were a lot better snow and frozen slush around the top layer of the ice making traction better for walking.

After we punched a few holes we discovered a few weed beds and started hitting the fish immediately in four to seven feet of water.

Tagged a few bluegills in the smaller size... Earl tagged one topping that 8 inch mark

probably had just over two and a half hours on this lake

Thanks Gary... it was windy and bitter yesterday.... i honestly have fun every time i go out. just love being in the outdoors. i dress warm enough when fishing is slow i dont think about the cold. things heat up especially when your on the fish.

Thanks Carl... we didn't keep any this outing... came from a small private lake... where we were guests. they put a lot of time effort and money to maintain their fishery ... so i maintain a strict CPR policy on this lake...
