Went out for a few hours this morning hoping to get into some decent 'gills and take a few home. It was not one of my better days...broke my leader and didn't have another leader or my tippet and to…Continue

Just want to say thanks to the great people on Big Bluegill! After reading a few of the post in several groups, I went to BassPro and got some pink Gulp Power Wigglers (look like little maggots) and…Continue

Yes it has been an up and down spring this year with the temperatures. Just woke up from an all night, 22 hour shift at the "light factory". It's a lght rain here today. Hopefully the weather will warm next week. Would really love to see the bluegill activity pick up. Was out last weekend. Bluegill fishing was very slow and scarce. Where are you at in the "old South State" Jeffrey? Send photos.
It will be a few more weeks before I bull rush my North Carolina Bluegill waters but reports I'm reading have a lot of fluxuation in water temperatures still with nights dropping into the 40s.....That's still the dominant pattern through the ten day forecast....Getting a good soaker in most of the state today through Monday and winds will be tricky around these weather systems.....Good luck and I'll be updating as soon as I return from the other Carolina!
Picked up a few gills Sunday in the Knobbs Creek section of the river.....The bigger gills were fond of the slow sinking live cricket approach......so I removed the split shot and sent the cricket out there in 4 to 6 feet of water to slowly sink out and get hammered at the three to four foot layer.....Caught these guys on my telescopic and had a blast.....Water temperatures dropped back in to the high 50s but just a few days in the 80s and milder nights will bring a jump in water temperatures and increased Bluegill activity....
Will be there Jeffrey!
Don't rule it out...we have very good Fall fishing here in Northeast N.C.......September and October still produce great Bluegill memories.....Only thing that potentially hurts us is a Tropical Storm or passing Hurricane which stirs up the low oxygen swamp waters....
Thanks Jeffrey. Was very greatful to get out on the water yesterday. With all that is going on right now, every day out fishing is a blessing. The weather will warm soon, so will the water. Really wish I had time to head your way, but that will have to wait for now. Will get there, maybe in the early fall.
The good thing is that you were able to get out Steve...these nights in the 30s and 40s will hold things up a bit but keep your fingers crossed....Thanks for sharing your fishing report.....
Good looking fish and photos Jeffrey. Looks like you had a good day on the water. I went to Mountain Island Lake yesterday. Was a good day on MIL. Lots of average bluegill. Caught a couple of 8" fish, but most were the usual 6" bluegill. Hopefully the water will warm up soon to bring those big coppernose gills up.
Well the full moon in April brought most of North Carolina a frost......I pulled up to the launch on the Cashie River near Windsor, North Carolina about fifteen minutes before Sunrise this morning and my thermometer read 36 degrees.......Got launched and I had decided overnight to fish some medium minnows first thing based on the colder conditions.....Worked out good as I put together a nice 20 fish Crappie limit in a little over an hour......Half were over 12 inches. Water Temperatures were at 57 degrees which I'm sure is a drop of 8 to 10 degrees from last week....This is the first Spring trip to this river this season but I fished only 20 miles East last Saturday and had water in the mid 60s.....Early season can be that way with chilly nights and Sunny days but we can't change it.......After reaching my Crappie limit I shifted my attack to the Live Cricket/Gulp Minnow fished at 18 inches deep and managed a clutch of medium gills.....I then shifted to the motor oil colored baby crawfish tipped with a cricket and managed a few more gills but the bass went nuts over this color and I caught a hand full of nice Largemouth and I wrapped it up at 12:00 with north winds blowing around 15 so things were getting tough in the region I was in...Temperatures over the next ten days are forecasted to be below normal so we'll have to watch things closely for steady water temperatures in the mid 60s.....
