Went out for a few hours this morning hoping to get into some decent 'gills and take a few home. It was not one of my better days...broke my leader and didn't have another leader or my tippet and to…Continue

Looking forward to getting back on the water in the Tarheel State...I've had a great time playing in the outdoors of South Carolina but home is where I like to hang my Bream Buster.....Late Summer patterns will include a little deeper presentation and the White Perch and Channel Cats will run into my offerings more often this time of year.....Still got a couple more months of rewarding pan fishing before water temperatures fall back into the lower 60s......Good Luck to you all fishing North Carolina Style......More reports coming soon.....
We're fortunate in North Carolina to have received beneficial rains throughout this Summer so far which has helped to manage water temperatures in our favor....Temperatures climbed to 90 degrees or higher in late June during the recent heat wave but have fell back to the lower 80s with recent rains and a few overcast days as well.....Big Bluegill can still be caught in the mid to late Summer months as I have caught my largest fish of the year in August or September every year since 2008....Didin't plan it that way or truly expect those results but that's the joy of fishing for me...Never know what's going to be on the other end of that tight line! My family and I had a great month of June but fishing has gotten even better in July which is truly amazing....Pink soft Plastics and Jigs are almost a sure bet in several Northeast N.C. rivers...Live Crickets, Grass Shrimp and Worms are always great offerings for big Coppernose and Shellcrackers.....Sunfish continue to nest through Labor Day in our region....Fish hard a few days before and after the Full Moon for best results......In my region a southerly wind component is critical to stabilize water levels....Anything from the North or Northeast will dump our rivers up to a foot and this is one of the few things besides a drastic change in water temps that will shut fish down..
Hello friends....if June is peak then May and July aren't far behind! I went out on Little River with a friend this afternoon and we had a blast....Fished heavy cover shallow with Grass Shrimp jigs tipped with live crickets and plain crickets also.....Over 80 gills in a few short hours, mainly Coppernose! Thanks for a great afternoon George and glad I had a litle help today! LOL
Invited a friend out for a trip on the North River in extreme Northeastern North Carolina and we had a blast.....We grabbed three tubes of crickets and headed out for some fun....Ended up catching well over a hundred gills and kept a nice mess for a fish fry......Also caught seven bass and Don's first Bowfin ever.....Had several nice 10 plus gills of the Coppernose variety.....Water temperatures at 83 degrees and air temps were around 90...Not a bad day considering it's mid Summer! Good luck fishing North Carolina Style!
Well my family has returned to Louisiana safely so I'm back to my solo fishing once again.. I invited a friend and his son but they declined because of the staggering heat.....Got out at first light after a Cajun Filet Chicken Biscuit from Bojangles....I arrived at the launch and four other trailers were there already....Seems some locals had a little bass tourney underway. Shot the breeze a couple minutes and launches the Ebbtide and headed North to the Beaver Pond.....I changed up my game plan after monitoring water temperatures around 85 to 87 near this locale......I went to Honey Hole Creek and began there....Neat little place especially when the water is falling out of the swamp and it was this morning.....I tipped my Gronaw Grass Shrimp and immediately had a fish on the first cast, a medium gill.....Tipped her again and chunked her in again and the float vanished with a plunge......I set the hook and knew it was solid.....a few big turns and some zipping drag lead the fish along side the boat.....I could barely see the float in the dark water and I gave it another lift and a big bodied Channel cat surfaced briefly but was in no way ready to surrender....he decided to make another run and with this lunge he parted the hook on my 400 plus fish jig.....I then tied on a pink headed hair jig and began to catch some nice fish until once again a big Channel Cat crushed the jig and our battle began.....I got him next to the boat and he was fighting very similar to the last big cat.......Drag zipping and pole wobbling.....I attempted to raise him towards the surface and another hook gave up the ghost....I then put on another pink jig with red rubber legs and I caught a Warmouth, a Bass, a couple good eating Channels and some nice gills...Even a good little Crappie took the offering......It was about 8:00 and heating up so I decided to hit the stables for an hour and this was the right move.....Water was 87 degrees there as well but the Olive Grass Shrimp tipped with a cricket was a killer along the walls in this region.....Fished another hour and I was drenched just fishing my telescopic so I put her in the wind and picked up at a little after 10:00...Only the tourney guys and a few personal watercraft were still out......What a heat wave it has been for everyone.......Had a good time and I'm heading back tomorrow......Fish are beginning their move a little deeper with these sustained water temperatures in the high 80s....Good Luck fishing North Carolina Style.....
Thanks Mark.....back to the shipyard grind.....but long days give me the time I need to continue fishing, but I really like to get out there with my dad every chance I get........I like messing with the different cameras I have......
Jeff Congrats on what really sounds like a great vacation. You really got around and thanks for all the beautiful photos!
My father and my nephew Dan headed back to Louisiana today after a great 2012 Summer vacation on the Albemarle of North Carolina.....We fished the following rivers during the three weeks they were here. Pasquotank, Perquimans, Yeopim, Northwest, North and Little Rivers hold great populations of Sunfish and we experienced great fun on each of them this June......Pasquotank is still at the top for Size and Quantity of gills, followed closely by the North and Little Rivers.....Each of them caught two personal bests a piece, my dad a Gill and a Flier, Dan with a big gill and a 17 ounce Yellow Perch....We averaged 53 gills a trip for the entire month of June and Wore a jacket as late as 6/19 and swam in 88 degree water just 11 days later...Go figure! We have done this several years in a row with great anticipation for the next.....I'm thankful for any fishing time I can share with these guys because they are truly Big Bluegill fanatics like me.....They're not even out of the Carolinas yet and I'm already dreaming of the next time......Fishing North Carolina Style will do that to you!
Fishing continues to be excellent in the Albemarle Region of North Carolina.......A heat wave has come with the first day of Summer which promises to bring water temperatures in the low 80s and sustained high water.......No need to worry here, air temperatures drop back to 80s for the weekend and into next week.....Featured Member Jim Gronaw was kind enough to send me some Pink hair jigs and Grass Shrimp jigs and the field test has been great...Hundreds of fish in all different species the last ten days proved that these baits are a killer in the black water rivers of the North Carolina swamps.....Good Luck to you all Fishing North Carolina Style....
Pop had a scheduled rest day today so Dan and I got out to the Stables this afternoon for some Bruisers......We had a great time catching 80 gills that were all released......Water levels approached normal and temperatures are approaching 80 degrees.....Great conditions for big bluegill fishing North Carolina Style.......GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL!
