We're waiting out the latest batch of winter weather in coastal North Carolina....today a washout and strong shifting winds will create irregular water levels for the next 48 hours in the tidal rivers.......The week ahead looks spring like and the most important thing is the moderating air temperatures at night which works to stabilize our water temperatures which will put the crappie spawn in full swing on the Albemarle.........Minnow tipped jigs and live grass shrimp will become hard to beat for the classic tuxedo Crappie.......The stained creeks will discourage many anglers but don't be surprised if they are several degrees warmer than the dark tannic waters........Crappie associate with wood for these shallow occurring events......both push overs, cypress colonies and man made structures pull fish in too........Here's some tidal Crappie that I picked up in the last several days......

These fish were picked up yesterday afternoon ahead of today's inclimate weather,,,,,water temperatures were much warmer than the air at 54 to 57 degrees.......

The big female Black Crappie are joining the smaller males in the shallows one by one.......most populations of male largemouth are also working the shallows and expect the females to join them in earnest by Easter.......Crappie spawn in our region aligns to Dogwood trees blooming and match the bass spawn with budding Pecan trees.........Mid to late April is a treat for local anglers as the bluegill population begin to survey the shallows and cross paths with crappie and largemouth  rendering any passing jig helpless on the Albemarle........Good luck everyone Fishing North Carolina Style......

We had to deal with that relentless March wind today but got in a couple hours and put together a mess of fish with some solid Crappie topping the list....

These fish were caught shallow on minnow tipped beadheads and jigs......Solid Black crappie prespawn.....

They're getting their Tuxedo on! We'll have to battle through up and down temps over the next ten days but night time temps are moderating and that's important to maintaining a water temperature profile in the high 50s near 60 and that's very important to our early spring bite.......Good Luck everyone fishing North Carolina style!

Things are warming up in coastal North Carolina.......most area rivers are in the middle to upper 50s now.......crappie are starting to move in.......dogwoods are blooming and the Full "Worm" Moon is Sunday.......got to fight some wind this weekend but with so many people wanting to fly kites off Jockey's Ridge, they deserve a little breeze every now and then.......forecast appears to predict moderation at night so things should continue to improve in the weeks ahead....good luck fishing North Carolina Style.......Here's one of 23 Crappie caught shallow on the Albemarle today......

Oh Yeah Tripp......just been updating on the pictures during our family vacation.....caught roughly 2,000 gills since June the first up here.....My mom caught one a pound and a quarter last week near Goat Island.....it's in my pictures......We've had a great vacation and I'll be doing some updates when things slow down a bit.........LOL

Nice report Corey....I've gigged about 30 nice bull frogs this month....had a low water event earlier in May that gave us good access to the frogs.....Full Moon is just a couple days away now.....looking forward to getting back out this week....Grass shrimp are getting harder to catch as the native grasses get thicker and thicker with the warmer weather but I always have crickets for a back-up and they work fine for me.......

Went frog gigging friday night and got 30, then turned around and hit the river Saturday and tore them up. We got our 90 in like 4 hours. My son had a blast. The bite is definetly on and is only going to get better as the full moon gets closer and closer. All fish were caught on crickets and a bobber in like 2-5 ft of water and sandbars where they are going to bed. I posted a pic of my success on my page if yall would like to check it out.

No worries Tripp......obsession is the word.....glad you guys came up and the next step is to fish together.....Pasquotank is just one of twelve great rivers in our region.....three to four that I would place as a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10.....Beautiful water, low pressure, quantity and quality.........it's a top public venue in bluegill nation......

Any NC guys fish the central part of the state? Or the south east?
