Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

First reels I recall using as a kid were my Brother 's Garcia spinning reel and my Dad's Johnson Century reel.

HEY JOHN,

Neat old gear and can't believe you still have your Dad's and brothers old gear!!!!!!!!! Good for you and I"m sure the memories are still intact . If the old gear could talk !!!!!!!!!! Looks like many fish were caught with these and the scruffs and dings are a part of their lore . Thanks for posting them here .

I wish I did Tooty that 's the type reel he had but its long gone .I found that reel pic on the net.

I remember my first rod and reel, it was in '59 and I got a Zebco Jr. for my birthday. I stood in the yard for hours casting it. It was a 4' solid fiberglass rod and the top part of the reel was built right on the rod. There was a metal piece that you lifted on the back of the rod to get into the reel. The rod handle and bottom half of the reel was one piece. Once it was taken apart you could service the reel. I wish I still had that one, but I do have my very first ice fishing rod. I bought it in about 1964.

I still use Johnson Century spinning reels.
