Dick, you are not the first one to tell me Lake Erie ,IS the place for numbers of big Perch .Drifting and dragging a baited jig and anchoring on a school ,YUP you know ! DROP to bottom ,DRAG, LIFT a foot off bottom, WHILE DRIFTING ,till ya make contact is what I do as well Summer /early fall till they come back to the shallows . I absolutely agree with you they are GREAT table fare and I enjoyed hearing you say the memories are there to stick . A great fish ,right Dick!
Welcome Maurie Hefner! Amazing Perch ,you're getting into!
Thanks John since I have declared perch being the best eating fish on the planet I guess maybe this is a good place to be. I'll try to add a little bit of my experience's on perch fishing. These are my opinions that I have experienced. Lake Erie is our number one lake in this area for perch. When I was young my dad and I and uncles and cousins use to go out often in the fall. We would get hundreds of yellow perch of course this was many years ago since I was a boy. We would go out to where we thought the fish were throw the anchor and fish. Back then there was no such thing as a fish finder you would go off your last outing experiences. As I got older I ask dad to hold of on the anchor till we caught some fish drifting. This was like a fish finder to me and worked quit well. We most always caught loads of perch. The key to lake Erie was to let your bait all the way to the bottom probably 12' to 15' foot around here in Northwest Ohio. We would reel in 3 turns of the reel and wait for that special bite. Most time we didn't have to wait long and the action was on. Them were memories I'll never forget along with some of the finest table fare I know.
Welcome Dick Tabbert!
