Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Needed to put a rig together mainly for the deep weedline and deep basin bite. Crappie is the main target but I project large quantities of quality B’gill on this rig as well.

I tested 3 different spools of line … looking for castability, sensitivity and good behavior on the spool. I started with my favorite type of line, braid. This was bought last spring on clearance after ice fishing season. Power Pro 4-0# test with a mono equivalent diameter of 1-0# test. The other spools were with 6-0# test white Nanofil and Trilene XT 4-0# test.

I started catching fish straight away and sensitivity seemed top of the charts. I switched out to mono and the casting distance was significantly lessened and the fish hits seemed muffled because of the stretch. The fish caught fought like sponge Bob considering the stretch of the mono. Definitely fishable and this was my line choice for a couple decades. It does catch fish but i feel im fishing with a handicap. i may have missed a few bites while testing. Nanofil performed well and sensitivity was up there as well.

The rod is new, joins the array of several lengths now in my possession. Spinmatic is now receiving the more favorable edge over my past favorite Okuma Celilo by a slim margin.
