Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This is actually funny after I thought it over a spell.

I've worn glasses since the age of 14. As anyone that fishes and hunts knows glasses SUCK! Fishing in the rain, fogging up in the cold hunting, and on and on. All these years I've thought about getting contact lenses but for one reason or another never followed through. Since I'm diabetic I have to have my eyes tested every year, and today was the day. So I did the contact lens test and got them, all the while patting myself on the back for how much better this was gonna be.

Put them in..... no problem. Looked across the parking lot.... BEAUTIFUL!...... Then looked at my watch and saw nothing but a fuzzy blur..... $%$##$%^^$#!!!! Danged old age, I gotta wear reading glasses to tie on a hook. The eye Dr. thought it was funny as all get out. My wife almost peed on herself laughing.

Hmmmmmm, didn't think that one through.

But, I ran by the Dollar Tree store and picked up a few pairs of reading glasses 'cause I'll  lose them regularly

no doubt. After all is said and done, I'm still happy I did it.

Earl, I feel  your pain, as a wearer of  tri focals I understand your suffering, a friend of mine had lasik surgery and was surprised that he could finally see hair on his toes in the shower, but still had to have half eyes to read, I have worn soft lense contacts  since 6 months after they came out on the market, and I can say they have come along way since then but still they dont solve all the problems LOFR

How well I know what you are going through, Earl! Been wearing glasses for over 50 years now. My last pair two years ago were trifocals. Then I woke up one day and everything was blurry in my right eye. A few weeks later the left eye started acting  the same way. After a trip to the eye doctor I was told I have cataracts on both eyes. I am scheduled to speak to a surgen  the first week in April to see about having them removed. I was told by my eye doctor that the surgery will take all of 12 minutes, and two weeks later they can do the other eye.Recovery time is suppose to be about two days per eye.The good news is the day of the surgery I will get implants and can throw my glasses away! They did say I may need some readers for tying on hooks, and other close work. I am very excited, as I have never been able to buy a "real pair" of sun glasses.

The older I get the more I find ways around stuff!

earl;; just do what I did buddy!  before; or right after you retire;; send your wife off for a couple of days.  while she is gone;; gather up all  of you tools;; and have a yard sale!!  get rid of everything!!  except maybe something to work on a boat  or fishing reel;; that part is ok.  take the money you get from selling all those tools; and go buy fishing stuff!!  remember-- retirement is golden!!your not suppose to work any more;; that's for somebody else!!   and-- with age at retirement;; we do often get hard of hearing.  and that's ok to.  wife never did say anything I really wanted to hear any way!

I'll never retire. I love what I do and can't imagine retiring. Too many guys I know retired and died shortly after. So if I never retire I'm immortal!!

I can sympathize with that. I'm nearsighted, started wearing contacts in my late teens or very early twenties, only added glasses to the mix when I was about 30 but still mostly used contacts. Now, well into middle age, I can no longer wear contacts because my eyes are too dry, so I'm stuck with glasses. I have to take them off to do close work or read, something I didn't have to do when I was younger, and I wear a different pair for work. The prescription is a little weaker than my regular distance glasses, and the ideal focal distance is 4 feet.

Why 4 feet? Because I measured the distance from my eyes to my monitors, and had them order me up lenses that would focus at the distance. I can see clearly a bit farther, but can't read the whiteboard in class with them, not even from the front row.

Haven't tried bi- or tri-focals, but did try progressive lenses. Always felt like I was going to fall down and/or get motion sick lol. They were a complete failure on me, thus the workstation glasses.

Should I ever get LASIKed, I'd need to put on reading glasses to read or tie fishing knots, and I just feel like I'd rather remove my glasses for that or peek out from underneath them if it's quick. That's the number 2 reason why I'll likely never have LASIK done. The cost is number one LOL  Number three is, what if they discover that after 30 years it makes you go blind? Nobody's been walking around with it that long, I don't think - although at my age, I might kick the bucket before I went blind, so it'd be a calculated risk :p

There are a lot of us right there with you..........  I have had to wear reading glasses for the past 10 years or so. Can't read a magazine without them. And as for fly tying......it is a MUST. Getting older is not for sissies. Good luck and just hang in there.........Don in SC
