Dale when going onto ice approach with caution I personally do not go on ice less than 6 inches of thickness. Watch where any flowage enters the lake or backwater you plan to fish stay a hundred yards away. I don't mean to scare anyone but we need to be carful.

i dont know how to tell if its safe. i found a place that you can icefish at. i already fish there but the last 6 times ive gone i cought nothing. only cougt there once. i might go there in the winter time to check it out. got a few nibbles yesterday though. forgot bait though.

Dale Ice fishing is a way to pass the cold winter months you must live in the southren end of New York I don't think you would have to travel to far to find good ice. The equipment is very inexpensive . we mostly catch pearch this far north

I like ice fishing Deep Creek Lake in western MD for big yellow perch in 15 to 35 ft of water, Ice Raps in gold or silver w/ waxworm. Many 13 inch perch, some bigger, caught a 2 lb 8 oz perch in Feb 2007.
