Information

Midwest Drifters

If you like to drift fish and have some tips and tricks to share, this is the place. Once we get into warmer weather and the Gills move to deeper water is when the fishing really gets good if you are a drifter.

A Drift sock has helped me on many a windy day . Particularly good using one in cold water periods or when the fish are neutral or inactive .The sock slows the drift down and you can fish slower .Many times the fish cant resist an easy meal presented slow .They dont have to work as hard. The " Energy expenditure " principle.

Looking forward to learning more about drift fishing. Especially how to do it on a Pontoon.

Don, Thanks for the invite. Summer drifting is my specialty as well but still want to add the spoonin' thing to my forta soon. Finding the right kind of rod holder is very difficult and most into it end up doing exactly what you did, made your own! (Is that an Alumicraft shown?) You need something that places the rod where you want it, BUT can remove it quickly without a lot of the BS you usually have to go through with commercial holders. Will enclose a pix of what I use on my pontoon (for me at the captain's chair) once I get them downloaded. I've sent 2 rod/reel combos to the bottom of Rock Lake due to the savagery of a blue gills strike when drifting and not paying close enough attention in my lifetime. Another great group started here and am proud to be a part of it. Sincerely, Bob
