Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been trying to incorporate local woods into my corn cob floats. I have cedar and spalted ash I cut down for knife handles. I used my table saw to rip these into 1/4 in square sticks. I just pushed the stick through the pith of a piece of cob and glued them into place. I then shaped the ends with the belt sander. Tied on the eye and they are ready to seal.

          Looks good Keith.

I know they will be well sealed, but do you think the cedar smell might affect the fish ??

I don't think so. Evergreen trees are common, that smell is probably familiar anyway.

good idea Keith!  the only thing missing with those floats is water!!

Dipped and done

Anything that'll float - that's my motto.
I've got some big goose quills I'm thinking about trying as floats.
Or maybe as quill bodied flies....

i would love to see those david.my son and buddies shoot dozens of canadian geese each year.i could keep you well supplied

If you're still curious watch this

The quills would make good sticks for floats, too....
I've done cork and cob floats with turkey quills. I've been looking for some goose quills to try.

i am all in on the goose quill idea,i have a lot of em .they are very light.might be too buoyant.how much weight will carl;s floats hold before sinking.starting to get all british with this stuff

Go for it guys!

I tried the Cedar and Cob floats yesterday. I was very satisfied with the way they casted and cocked with a small amount of weight. The wind was blowing and made seeing the strikes difficult on long casts. Caught a few Bluegills and Shellcracker.
