Do you love big bluegill?

This is Charlie, my step-dad on his last fishing trip. I spent lots of hours with him fishing. I sure do miss him.

This is Uncle Dud and my family in Indiana. Ole Unc taught me more and gave me the opportunity's to fish and this is the guy responsible for teaching me to fish with flies and Bobbers . Gone now many years, and missed.....

Ahh what great memories.

I was born & raised my first 10 years on the Mississippi River in N Ill. Fishing & hunting was the main thing. My dad was great at both & he always took me along. One time I had my 410 single shot and he had a Browning 12 ga auto. He was getting the birds & I was not. So I said "you are getting them because of your bigger gun". He says lets trade & see. Well I continued to miss and he continued to hit.

All I learned came from our father & son trips on the river. He's been gone a long time now & I am 72 but sure glad I had a great dad.

Steve in so la

Steve although its been awhile ago something about them quality memories that last forever.

A GREAT MEMORY STEVE AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT...

This pic is worth a Million bucks buddy in memories......Looks like he is having to hold his right arm up with his left ! THAT IS DETERMINATION at it finest point ..........

brings great memories!!

Well my dad introduced me to fishing, but it was my Great Uncle Grier who really taught me to catch fish. He is the second guy to hold up a big bass a few seconds into this and reappears with the giant string of panfish about a minute later.

I am pretty sure that is his rod bent over in the lousy action shot (converted 8mm shot from over 50 years ago).

He lived in Laguna Beach, FL (just outside PCB) and had a place at a "fish camp" inland. He took me out in the Gulf for king mackeral and Mahi, in the surf for pompano and flounder, in the bay for specs, inland on rivers and lakes for bass and panfish. It was really devastating to find out that it really isn't that easy to load the boat with fish every time you went out. It was like magic to fish with him.

One of my favorite memories was one of the last times I saw him. I was in my teens and I wanted to go down to the pier at night to go shark fishing. He didn't go and I didn't catch anything. Coincidence? I think not. Anyway, when I told him what I had in mind, he rummaged around in the garage and brought out an old trolling rod that looked like it could winch a car up an embankment and told me "Bring me back the handle." :)

That was around 40 years ago and I am misty eyed thinking about it.

Wow and footage to go along with it truly an everlasting memory.

Andy, Really cool video!!!! Reminds me of growing up in the 50s and 60s.

You guys were lucky.  Nobody in my family fished so I was self taught.  Lots of trial and error in the beginning.  My Grandma's friend gave me few years worth of old Field & Stream magazines when I was about 8 years old.  These are what sparked my interest in fishing and were my teachers.

Bottom line Steve is your hooked, thanks for sharing.

My Dad was an excellent fisherman and hunter. His favorites were crappie fishing and quail hunting. No telling how many hours we spent on Kentucky Lake and how many miles of fencerows we walked together. He is missed by many for many reasons but the fishing and hunting and the stories about both stand out in my mind. Thank you for starting this discussion.
