Ontario sunfish regulations - Looking for input from US anglers that fish in Ontario

On March 17, 2009 the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources began a public consultation process on a draft fisheries management plan for FMZ 17. The strategies and management options included in the draft Fisheries
Management Plan for Fisheries Management Zone 17 (FMZ 17) were developed by the MNR with the help of the FMZ 17 Advisory Council. The council is a committee of volunteers who represent the public and a broad array of stakeholder groups that have an interest in the local fisheries resources. The plan includes a number of management options that may be of particular interest including:
Options for sunfish regulations
• Options for size-based regulations for walleye
• Additional angling opportunities, including options for extended seasons for pike, panfish and lake whitefish

Further information on the Fisheries Management Plan and the proposed options can be found can be found at www.ontario.ca/zonecouncils or by contacting the ministry’s Peterborough District Office via email (fishPTBO@ontario.ca) or phone (705-755-2001).
Feedback on the draft management plan is being collected via a posting to the Environmental Registry (www.ebr.gov.on.ca – registry posting number 010-5587) and an online survey (www.FMZ17survey.ca). Comments will be accepted until May 19, 2009.
Please provide your feedback and encourage others who have an interest in the FMZ 17 fishery to do so as well.

Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources,
