Do you love big bluegill?
Being a catfisherman, I have to catch bluegills for bait. In Texas, it gets damn hot during the summer, and we have 3 summers - early summer, high summer, late summer, and 2 weeks of winter.
During the hot months, I fish for my bluegills just at dusk and into the night. I use 2" glowsticks, a wine cork bobber with a hole drilled into it, and a bamboo skewer as the line stop. The line is fed thru the hole in the bobber and the skewer slides in to freeze the line in place. The glow stick is tie wrapped to the 3-4" of skewer. Quite a simple and neat system. Normally I find the gills at 2-4 feet.
It also makes it fun to fish for bait while waiting on cats to bite.
But that was in summer. Last night, Oct 26, on Lake Travis, the bite was slow. Likely I was too shallow at 4', but I'm unsure about how deep they should be. Any ideas on depth for non-ice fishing in 60 deg water?

I fish Town lake at red bud isle and they hit fly fishing poppers. The boat ramp at the highway 360 bridge they hit around 3-4ft deep. But i guess that was also in late summer. i haven't had much luck with nightcrawlers anywhere, but i would definately recomend crickets.
