Thanks David I'm still trying to figure out the site and thanks for the info

Welcome, Mike! Check out the listings of discussions, groups or blogs that may narrow down some of your specific needs...lots of great stuff here. Or, just ask!

hey Mike  you came to the right place to get information !!  question is;; do you fly fish or use spinning gear or what is your preference??    a lot of rod makers here as well as fly tyiers make jigs;; you name it;;  its here buddy!!    and to give you a idea;; we are going to have a rendevou this May at Camden Tn.   come join us!!

Carl i would like to make that trip but don't have a boat I'll be bank fishing mostly and I'm planning on trying spinning reels and cain poles mainly just don't no where to start on the type of equipment that i need to get.

hey Mikey;;  there are a lot more ways to catch our beloved bluegills than just a hook '' sinker' and a cricket!!!  check out dick tabbert;s pix page of some of the things he made to catch them !!  AND while your at it;; Allan Morgan page!!  Jeffery Abnathy;; in north Carolina  is THE MAN on catching blue gills!!   so far this year; he has caught well over 5000 !!  just blue gills!!  not counting;; bass and other trash fish!!  Jim Gronaw; in Maine  is awesome just as well!!   so many to speak of;  it would be unfair to try to mention all of the guys who regulary catch them!!  and if you want a eye opener;; go to Bruce Condello;s pix page!!  I feel sorry for Bruce; he cant catch a blue gill les than 2 pounds!!  poor guy!!   buddy if you could make it to the rendevou;; guarantee you will learn a ton of tricks - real fast!!  and fun beyond your dreams!!   remember  if it happens at a rendevou;; we will not tell a single person!!  we're gonna tell everybody!!  it wil be on u- tube!!

Thanks for the honorable mention, Carl...but I am from Maryland.

And mike...I think we have a group 'Cane Pole Crazy' that talks about pole-n-line fishing. Jeffrey Abney is almost exclusively a pole fisherman, using a variety from 10 to 14 foot telescoping poles. I have 4 poles that I love  to fish with in the summer when fish are mostly shallow.

Thanks man I'll look in to some of those. I'm not just going to use a cricket or worm. I plan on trying some of the small cranks and spinniers as well. An Jim i will look around for that group thanks guys.

Hi Mike. Welcome from Central, PA. Many great people here so just ask away.

Mike;; Jim Gronaw has a post on the main page;; using crankbaits for blue gills!!  well worth a try this year!!

Start simple then work your way up to more advanced methods. A cane pole and crickets are not to be overlooked. A simple ultra light rod and reel with a panfish sized Crankbait like the StrikeKing Bitsy Minnow or a Rebel Teeny Craw has produced a lot of bluegills for me over the last few years. I'm no expert but I'll share what I know, if you need help just ask.
Thanks Keith I'll give those a try. So what type of areas do i need to look for when i go out fishing?
