Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Howdy Yall, the names Adam and i am new to BBG. A bit about my self, i come from a big family that loves to fish. My daddy loves going to lake Eerie to hammer walleye and muskey and my brother is a notorious bass fisherman who has started fishing tournaments. Me i was always a big catfish guy ( With the occasional jug night for turtles , mean, smelly and good eatting).

I never considered the bluegill to be anything more then a trashy little bait fish until one day i was fishing for crappie with a little beetlespin in North Carolina while iwas in the Marine Corps and wham a pound and a half bluegill wrecked my world and my little ultra light. That was 2 years ago and i have almost entirly devoted my life to blue gillin, and Crappie jigging. I havnt beat my 1.5 pounder yet but ive come close. And i have to say Bg is the most delicious fish i have ever had the pleasure of eating and the guts work great for snapping turtles.

But jsut wanted to say howdy and introduce my self good luck gilling.

Howdy back at you Adam!  1.5 pound bluegill is HUGE!  Next time you land a fish like that have a camera handy! ;)
Wish i did have a pic of him or atleast a pick of my rod nearly touching my reel. He faught harder then the 2 and 2 1/2 slabs i was catching.

Great to have you here, Adam!  Your story is a lot like the rest of ours.  You'll fit in perfect at BBG.  Yes bluegill are awesome to catch, and mouth-watering to eat.  And they have populations that can satisfy both the trophy fisherman, and the filet-oholic. :-)  Proper management is the key.  And this is the best site in the world to learn about our favorite fish.  Thanks a lot for your commentary!
